Wilde Season

JHI has worked with Dominic Dromgoole on the first venture following his departure from Shakespeare’s Globe; celebrating proscenium playwrights in the architecture for which they wrote. This began with a season of Oscar Wilde plays starting with A Woman of No Importance followed by Lady Windermere’s Fan, An Ideal Husband and finishes with The Importance of Being Ernest. The challenges here were: to deliver audiences for one production while also selling advance tickets for the next, interspersed with additional ‘interludes’ including Simon Callow in De Profundis, The Selfish Giant and a series of one-night readings and discussions; to create an ‘event’ out of Dominic Dromgoole and the whole season; and to engage the short term domestic markets and the longer term international tourist market, overriding any individual casting or creative team names.
